West Central Alberta’s Current Water Conditions & Fly Fishing Report

On the upper Red Deer above Glennifer lake flows have been dropping from last weeks water surge. Water conditions have been great And visibility has not been an issue! Dry fly fishing has been picking back up again! And nymphing has been doing great as well!
The upper tributaries flows have dropped back down to the seasonal average and the water temperatures have been perfect! Visibility has been excellent as well as the dry fly fishing! Midge, caddis and mayfly patterns have all been the ticket over the past few days

On the tail water section of the Red Deer River the flows have been great and water temperature and visibility has been an issue. dry flies have been active. However, nymphing and streamers have been very productive as well. Small minnow patterns, big foam patterns and worm patterns have been fishing well.

On the local Stillwater’s this week water temperatures have been slowly rising again after last weeks rain. But temperatures haven’t been an issue yet. Stripping leech patterns on the banks has been doing great. Also there has been a great number of caddis and mayflies on the water and lots of surface action in the mornings and evenings! Leech patterns and streamers have been great in the middle of the day fished at deeper depths.

In many of west centrals high-country streams flows remain above the seasonal average from last weeks storms and heavy rainfall. Visibility is still fairly low in many places but flows are dropping and conditions are improving daily. We are hoping to see water conditions and fishing pick back up again over the next week however we have lots of precipitation and storms forecasted over the next few days.
