West Central Alberta’s Current Water Conditions & Fly Fishing Report

The Upper Red Deer continues to experience high water conditions as runoff and rainfall persist. Most high stream flow advisories were lifted early this week however we will likely see flows in the high seasonal averages continue for another week or two before flows slow down and conditions improve. Look too the tributes to clean up first and if your out on the hunt for good water go high or think about checking out a spring creek.

The Tailwaters of the Red Deer below Dickson Dam are also experiencing high flows. While flows are high, Water conditions are decent especially close to Dickson Dam. Many of the lower Red Deer tribs are also flowing high however look to the tribs to potentially clean up and fish well this week if rainfall amounts are minimal.

On the local Stillwater’s fishing has continued to be decent. Water temps are increasing, and many anglers are reporting damsel and leech patterns to be producing well. Sedge hatches have been present daily and heavy at times.

In the West Country conditions have deteriorated over the last week and many streams are experiencing high flows and poor water conditions. Many of the West Country streams will be the first to clean up so if rainfall this week is minimal those who venture out looking for good water may be rewarded! Current conditions on the Ram as of yesterday morning are very high flows with very low to no visibility.

Check out the Alberta River App or give us a call at the shop for more accurate updates as the week progresses.
